Memories for Old Age

“Cherish all your happy moments; they make a fine cushion for old age.”
                                                 – Booth Tarkington

Sorrow bleeds through aged fingertips
as memories gone by are wished for
playing hooky from school on ditch day
and pranks on siblings on April Fool’s

Summer days full of laughter
spent at a beach chasing waves
or on a lake swimming or fishing
to end a day toasting smores

Many a holiday spent with family
aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews
cousins and grandparents galore
my favorite memory of all

Now in these fading years
happy memories are cherished more
a comfortable settee to view life from
stories to regale to generations to come
