5 Days ‘Til NaNo – My Story

Ok, all you NaNoites…it’s now five days until NaNoWriMo. Have you been doing OctPreP? Or have you just be preparing on your own? Do you have the story you want to start writing on? Or are you still scrambling to figure out what you want to start writing?

I must admit this year I’m a bit less prepared than I was last year. Last year I’d been working on the OctPrep with my WDC folks on my story and it had helped prepare me to write my story.

This year, however, I’ve been lax in many aspects of my writing. You see, I’m Bi-Polar and have Fibromyalgia, arthritis and a few other ailments. And I let that aspect of my life drag me down and my writing and artwork suffered this year. I barely wrote anything, not even any poetry; which is unusual for me because I often take up the challenge of NaPoWriMo in April. This year I didn’t do so well.

But I digress.Β  I’m here with new fervor, a new lease on my life of writing and I begin this year’s NaNo with ensuring my Fantasy Story is the best it can be. I’m also here to encourage all you other “NaNoites” to follow along, post replies to each of my posts here in my “NaNo” header, and/or post about how you’re doing in your search of 50,000 words for your story.

My own story I plan for a serial type novel(s). The first book would be: “Bio of an Elfin Dragon: Knowledge of Wisdom”. Then of course sequels would be titled thusly…”Bio of an Elfin Dragon:……” WhyΒ  sequels? Because the main character is a shape-shifting elf. Mother is an elf, father a dragon; thus giving her a very long life. She is banished from her home with elves to live among humans and that is her story. A series of adventures, friendships, learning to live with her duty (though still outcast), and a myriad of other things.

So, tell me…..

  1. What do you plan to write about?
  2. Do you have a place set up to write?
  3. Do you have a planned time to write?
  4. Are you planning to write away from home, with others, alone?
  5. Are you planning to avail yourself of what the NaNoWriMo site offers in help?

Good luck, everyone, in your endeavors this year to write your story. I hope we all attain our goals.

Good luck with NaNo! I have decided not to participate. I only recently got back into writing and, while I think I have been doing quite well, I am concerned that the pressure of doing 50k words in one month will make me enjoy it less. I have a baby that takes up a lot of my time too, so not the right year for me. But I am definitely interested in what other people are doing for NaNo!

Thank you so much! Just coming back from several months off from writing myself, I wondered if I should do NaNo this year as well. But I figured there’s no better way for me to pick up my own spirits than getting back into a story that I really do love to write. I certainly do know how hard it is to write with so many distractions around the house though. If you’d like to try your hand at just a few personal contests or brain teasers…WDC is always a great place for writing and writers. πŸ™‚

WDC is a website for writers called Writers.com. Writers of all ages and abilities come and share their works, knowledge, and general camaraderie. There are those who are just starting out and those who have published several novels…and everywhere in between. The forums on the site allow us to chat, learn, critique and get critiques of our works. We also have a lot of fun with contests throughout the year. I hope this helps.
